The shrinking workforce
This is already one of the dominant economic and human interest stories and in the next 10 to 20 years will become even bigger than it is today, due to the shrinking workforce. Right around 10,000 baby boomers will turn 65 years old in the United States every day until about 2030 according to the U.S. Census Bureau. And in some of these years it will climb to as high as 13,000 a day. We hear this and then go about our daily routine while the issues this will bring continue to grow.
Some baby boomers will extend their careers, but large numbers of boomers will retire, and finding enough new workers will be a growing challenge for many employers. Thus, employers will all be competing for the smaller workforce.
